Still Movement: A series of videos exploiting the materiality of analogue photography and film in an exploration of the illusion of motion.
This project was about using the material nature of celluloid film to create images. By means of destroying, subtracting and adding to the negative I created camera-less images. In this process an accidental discovery threw my projected into the realms of motion. The addition of wax on the slides caused the still images to move, the heated generated from the slide projector's lamp slowly morphed the images live in a projection space. It is here where I turn to the ethereal nature of the digital world to capture and distribute these compositions.
Slow Waters: A video created using one still consisting of melted cellotape and wax on a singular slide. The camera records the wax morphing generated by the heat of the lamp in the slide projector. A combination of analogue and digital qualities.
Blue Cells: Dark shadows reveal the blue celluar-like structures. Created with wax, blue ink and sealed with cellotape.
Time Strip:
Wax, cellotape and cut up celluloid film strip.
Moon River:Another still movement created by physically burning the blank negative causing it to melt and blister. Wax was dripped on top and sealed in with cellotape until finally being placed in a slide mount. Resulting in this beautiful image, using heat to transform the composition live on site.
Stills:  Beginning and end of transition
Can see the wax breaking down in the first shot, cracking until it finally melts and disperses in the final image.
Stills: Beginning and end of transition.
Although the wax was designed to be the central focus the texture remains the most interesting in this particular composition.
Projection shot on site. Rotating the slide mount to create an alternative from the traditional widescreen view.
